Missions

Oakland is involved in mission opportunities throughout the world each year—through giving their time, as well as their offerings.

Locally, we have participated in community projects such as collecting classroom supplies and food for weekend meals for students, and gathering Thanksgiving baskets for those in need. Oakland organized High Power Soccer, reaching into the community, working on skills and sharing the gospel with as many as 100 youngsters and their families each summer.

Groups of teens and adults have participated in building projects throughout King George, sharing the gospel with homeowners and providing funds for building materials. Groups also have traveled regionally to work with Word Changers on building projects, sharing the gospel with homeowners and neighbors.

Families annually travel to Standing Rock Reservation in the Dakotas to work on projects including carnivals, VBS, lunch programs and distributing shoes and clothing.

International missions have included trips to work with young boys at a home in Peru, while others have traveled to Haiti for building and medical projects. Oakland also has an ongoing relationship with missionaries to an unreached people group in Africa.
